
A delegation of the European Parliament‘s Committee on Transport and Tourism are visiting Ireland this week to discuss sustainable aviation fuel, port and rail projects. The delegation will be welcomed to counties Meath and Louth by MEP Nina Carberry to highlight key infrastructure and tourism projects.
One of the key agenda items is a meeting with Irish Rail CEO, Jim Meade in Navan, who will outline to the group plans for the Navan Rail Line project and the DART+ West.The aim of the DART+ West is to provide a sustainable and electrified rail service for customers in Maynooth and at M3 Parkway to the city centre rail corridors.
The delegation will also hear from chief executive of Drogheda Port Company, Paul Fleming, who will present on plans for a new world-class deep water energy port at Bremore. MEP Carberry said: “The Bremore Port project has the potential to generate significant benefits and jobs for the region. In addition, the delegation will visit the historic site of the Hill of Tara, meet with Heritage Ireland, and hear from Meath County Council on the future of the Boyne Valley Tourism Strategy.
The itinerary also includes a visit to Dublin Airport, where discussions will focus on Ireland’s efforts to decarbonise the aviation sector. MEPs will also visit the southeast and south regions of Ireland to get first-hand insights on transport connectivity challenges, development of multimodal ports, as well as rail and tourism project and EU financing. Stops include Rosslare Europort in County Wexford, and meetings with the Restaurant Association of Ireland, the Irish Whiskey Association, the Irish Road Haulage Association and its president Ger Hyland, as well as several Government Ministers.
